CREC SCHOOLS Hands-On Standards: Number and Operations Additional resource that focuses on the Number and Operations domain at your grade level Comprehensive lessons are aligned to CT Core Standards and include Warm-up activity Foundational Skill Practice Guided Practice Independent Practice Remediation/Enrichment Books will be delivered within the next two weeks

CREC SCHOOLS Exemplars http://exemplarslibrary.com/ Performance tasks that are searchable by standard All tasks have differentiated versions as well as scoring keys Some tasks have anchor sets Your log-in gives you access to all grade levels

CREC SCHOOLS Pacing Guide Changes to Pacing in: – Grades K, 1, 2, 3 to allow for First Days of Math Workshop – Grade 4 Units 3 and 5 – Grade 5 Units 6 and 7 Order changed in: – Grade 3 -> Area and Perimeter moved to Unit 3 and Whole Number Computation moved to Unit 5 – Grade 5 -> Volume moved to Unit 3, Decimal Computation to Unit 7, Algebra to Unit 8 Reminders: – Suggested pacing – Each unit also has an additional week for re-teaching and enrichment that is NOT accounted for

CREC SCHOOLS First Days of Math Workshop Grades K, 1, 2, 3 – 7 days of explicit instruction around workshop and then 5 days of integrated work – Unit 1 does not have a re-teaching week to allow for this Grades 4 and 5 – 3 days of explicit instruction around workshop and then 5 days of integrated work

CREC SCHOOLS Suggested Unit Maps Located on Schoology in the discussion thread for the unit Suggested order of content with resources aligned You will still need to make the plan your own based on your students and your teaching style

CREC SCHOOLS Unit Assessments All grade levels were revised based on feedback and data from 2013-2014 Form A should be used as a pre-assessment and a re-assessment Form B should be used as the post-assessment All unit assessments should go in the student’s data portfolio Reminders: – Not Optional – data for any post-assessments will be entered in Performance Pathways Optional to put pre-assessment data in PP – Assessment (Form A) should be given again after re- teaching or intervention

CREC SCHOOLS Assessment Reflections Optional To be used in grades 2, 3, 4, 5 for students to reflect on their learning Also can be used as parent communication tool Found on Schoology in the discussion thread for the unit

CREC SCHOOLS Unit Performance Tasks Tasks now have anchor sets with sample student work Selected tasks should go in the student’s data portfolio Reminders – Not Optional – Embedded in Unit Plan – Use instructionally and as formative data – Build student capacity to complete tasks First task should be launched together Second task could be done in pairs depending on needs of class/grade level

CREC SCHOOLS Math Rubric Should be posted in room and in upper grades, given to students for their math folder New document created for teacher to use to score (matrix model) Reminders – Should be used to score any math investigation, journal entry, or performance task. – Focuses on the three main components we want students to provide Accurate answer Model/representation of answer Communication of answer

CREC SCHOOLS General Resources New – Mathematical Practices Resources Lesson Seeds (available in September) – First Days of Math Workshop – Math Portfolio Checklist Reminders – Fact Fluency Resources – Vocabulary Word wall is a must with new curriculum Don’t just put words up on the wall, make sure students interact with the words. – With older students, have them create the word wall – Lesson Plan Templates Follow the math workshop/guided math model

CREC SCHOOLS Math Portfolio Student portfolios should be kept for all students Guidelines for what “lives” in the folder is outlined on P21 under Curriculum Resources – All Unit Assessments – Three Journal Samples – Three Performance Task Samples – Fluency Benchmark Data Student Reflection sheets for journals and performance tasks will be forthcoming

CREC SCHOOLS Math Curriculum: HOW Your team is your greatest resource Schoology Support from curriculum team Feedback still encouraged
