3. What is NREPP? NREPP was created in 1997. NREPP is a searchable database of mental health and substance abuse interventions that meet certain minimum requirements for effectiveness and replicability. NREPP IS NOT AN ENDORSEMENT FROM SAMHSA! Participation in NREPP is voluntary, which means that, while all 300+ interventions in NREPP have been assessed and rated for quality of research (strength of evidence) and readiness for dissemination (ease of implementation with fidelity by another), not all evidence-based practices and programs are included in the database.

4. Review Criteria NREPP minimum review criteria require that interventions must: 1.be evaluated using an experimental or quasi-experimental study design; 2.demonstrate one or more positive change outcomes in mental health and/or substance use among individuals, communities or populations; 3.have results that are published in a peer-reviewed publication or documented in a comprehensive evaluation report; and 4.provide documentation, such as manuals, guides, or training materials, to facilitate broader public dissemination of the intervention.

9. Choosing an Evidence-Based Program Where has this intervention been implemented? Has it been used somewhere like my community or setting? What people have been served by the intervention? Are they the same or similar to my population? What is required (staff, money, locations) to implement this intervention? Do we have, or can we get, those resources? Has this intervention been adapted in a way that might work for my community/population? What are the challenges to implementation? If we might have those same problems, could we overcome them? What are the lessons learned from other implementations of this intervention? Can we avoid past mistakes? Will we need training to implement this intervention? If so, where do we get it and what does it cost? Is technical assistance available? From whom? Who can I contact about their implementation of this intervention? (Call them!)

11. Supplementing NREPP -- BPR The Suicide Prevention Resource Center has a similar database, the Best Practices Registry. It is maintained in partnership with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention and SAMHSA. http://www.sprc.org/bpr It includes the NREPP evidence-based practices and programs, as well as information on best practices for suicide prevention programs and a list of programs which have been reviewed for adherence to best practice standards.
