One of the largest community colleges in the Carolinas – serving more than 70,000 students annually. CPCC offers almost 300 degree, diploma and certificate programs, customized corporate training, market-focused continuing education, and hundreds of special interest classes. CPCC’s vision: “To be the national leader in workforce development.” Recognized as "Community College of the Year" in by the National Alliance of Business CPCC is a “career college,” providing programs that help people get jobs. CPCC is focused on student success and workforce development. $280 million in Mecklenburg County bonds and other construction funds will allow college to add approximately 900,000 square feet of space by 2019.

3 History CPCC founded in 1963, in the Central High School building on Elizabeth Avenue. One of the earliest of North Carolina’s 58 community colleges. Opened with 23 degree and diploma programs. Only three presidents in 50 years: Dr. Richard Hagemeyer, Dr. Ruth Shaw, Dr. Tony Zeiss, 1992- In 1969, CPCC became a member of the prestigious League for Innovation in Community Colleges

13 Student Profile Approximately 46% of our students take college-level classes for credit. Approximately 36% of the students are enrolled in Continuing Education programs. Approximately 18% of our students are enrolled in literacy programs like GED, Adult High School and Basic Literacy courses. 51% are female and 49% are male. 47% are under age 30. 53% are minorities. 45.8% are first-generation college students. 96% work full- or part-time. CPCC has more than 5,500 international students from 168 countries. 7.7% of CPCC students speak a language other than English in their homes.
