MUHAMMAD’S VISION When he was 40, he went to a cave to meditate. According to Muslim belief, while he was meditating, he heard a voice saying “Recite in the name of your God, the creator, who created man from clots of blood.”

THE HIJRA: A TURNING POINT Many threatened to murder Muhammad, so Muhammad and his followers left Mecca to Yathrib ( Medina). This journey is known as the hijra. The hijra was a turning point for Islam because in Medina, Muhammad was welcomed by Muslims as law giver and God’s prophet. In 630, Muhammad returned to Mecca and defeated those who opposed him.
