2.  Sam Houston was born in Shenandoah Valley, Virginia on March 2, 1793.  He spent much of his youth, however, in the mountains of Tennessee.  Sam Houston died on July 26, 1863

James died on Apr 18, 1820 at Houston's Valley, Greene Co. and was buried at Houston's Valley, Greene Co.. Agnes died in 1765 at Staunton, Augusta Co., Va.

5.  Houston's Alamo records show that he was 6 foot 2 inches when he was 19 years old. His Texas legend puts him at 6 foot 6 inches on his death. His family holds that he was a bit shorter.
