2 Overall Summary Chapter 1 - Early in the morning, Coyotito is stung. - Kino brings Coyotito to the doctor but he refuses to treat Coyotito because Kino does not have much money to pay for his service. Chapter 2 - While Kino dives for pearls, Juana stays in the canoe and puts some poultice on Coyotito's wound. - Lucky for them, Kino finds a pearl. which he describes as large as a seagull's egg and perfect as the moon

3 Chapter 3 - The priest visits Kino’s house, and reminds Kino to give thanks for the pearl..hoping that he may be able to get some money for the church. - Later, the doctor comes with his servant and

5 Plot Exposition A scorpion stings Coyotito.
The doctor refuses to treat Coyotito because Kino does not have any money. Later, Kino finds the greatest pearl in the world.

6 Rising Action Three attemps are made to steal the pearl. The attemps fail but Kino kills one of his attackers in the third attemp Juana blames the pearl for all their bad luck. She asks Kino to destroy the pearl or throw it back into the sea. Kino refuses. The pearl buyers agree among themselves not to offer Kino a good price for the pearl Juana tries to throw the pearl into the sea. Kino stops her. Their house is burned and Kino’s canoe is damaged. Kino decides to leave the village with Juana and Coyotito. They set out for the cities in the north.

7 Climax Falling Action Resolution
Kino and Juana are followed by the trackers. One of the trackers accidently kills Coyotito. Kino kills the three trackers. Falling Action Kino and Juana return to the village. Resolution Kino throws the pearl into the sea.

8 Social Setting The Pearl is set in a small Mexican-Indian fishing village. Kino and the other villagers are poor fishermen and divers. They live in brush houses. They dive for pearls and sell these pearls to the pearl buyers in the town of La Paz. The Mexican Spanish live in La Paz. These are people with education and some wealth. The people who belong to this group are the doctor, priest and the pearl buyers. They think they are better than the poor fishermen and pearl divers.
