3 Course Equivalency Law (RCW 28A.230.097 and RCW 28A.700.070) Districts are required to have a policy for course equivalencies. Boards of directors must approve AP computer science courses as equivalent to high school mathematics or science. CTE courses that are equivalent shall be accepted as core requirements, including graduation requirements, if the course is transcribed as the equivalent course. A certificate recording the student’s successful completion of the CTE course becomes part of the student’s High School and Beyond Plan. Washington State Board of Education

6 E2SSB 6552: CTE Course Equivalency Washington State Board of Education OSPI shall develop a list of CTE courses that are equivalent to science or mathematics courses. The content of the courses must be aligned with standards. OSPI shall submit the list of equivalent courses and their curriculum frameworks to the SBE for review, an opportunity for public comment, and approval. Districts must provide the opportunity to access at least one mathematics or one science equivalent course from the list. Districts with fewer than 2,000 students may apply to the SBE for a waiver from these provisions.

7 CTE Frameworks Aligns national and industry standards to state core content standards, leadership and employability skills in one document. Helps ensure student outcomes are relevant to the current industry and national standards. Reviewed annually by program advisory committees and by program supervisors at OSPI.
