2 OPTIMOD 8500 is Orban's flagship FM processor. It builds on the successful sound of the 8400 version 3 by doubling the sample rate and DSP horsepower while adding new features. Processing for HD Radio, digital radio and netcasts is built-in and offers 20 kHz audio bandwidth. 2 OPTIMOD-FM 8500

3 3 An eight-second diversity delay lets you use the 8500's stereo coder and second- generation dual-mode composite limiter (hard clipper or “Half-Cosine Interpolation” limiter) to achieve unprecedented analog FM loudness. Plus, 13 speech-mode controls let you fine- tune the processing independently for music and speech. OPTIMOD-FM 8500

4 4 Because the analog and digital channels share most of the processing, they always have the same processing texture, so your signature sound is intact. But the digital channel uses optimized look- ahead peak limiting to create a cleaner, brighter and punchier sound that sells the benefits of HD Radio to the mass audience.

5 5 OPTIMOD-FM 8500 HD radio's big advantage is that its digital channel isn't crippled by the pre-emphasis that destroys high frequency headroom in FM. When your listeners hear the digital channel, they can hear modern mixes with all elements intact — but only if you've correctly processed your audio specifically for the digital channel.

6 6 OPTIMOD-FM 8500 With 8500 HD FM peak limiting, the mass audience can hear a dramatic difference in punch and sparkle between the digital and analog channels. Yet both channels still have your signature audio texture, with the same stereo enhancement, AGC, EQ and multiband compression.

7 7 OPTIMOD-FM 8500 User-Friendly Interface A large (quarter-VGA) active-matrix color liquid crystal display (LCD) makes setup, adjustment and programming of the 8500 easy. Navigation is by a miniature joystick, two dedicated buttons and a large rotary knob. The LCD shows all metering functions of the processing structure in use.

8 8 OPTIMOD-FM 8500 Use the Locate joystick to navigate through a menu that lets you recall a preset, modify processing (at three levels of expertise) or to access the system's setup controls.
