2 Subject & Grade This Lesson will be used for a 4 th grade summer camp class. This interdisciplinary unit on water’s importance addresses: Literacy Social Studies Art

3 Curriculum Framing Questions Essential Question: Why is water important? Unit Questions: What is water? How is water used? How has water affected human history? How does water become polluted? How can we protect and conserve water?

4 Oregon State Standards Literacy: EL.04.RE.20 Identify and or summarize sequence of events, main ideas, facts, supporting details, and opinions in informational and practical selections. Social Studies: SS.05.GE.07 Understand how physical environments are affected by human activities. Art: AR.05.HC.03 Describe how works of art from various history periods reflect the artist’s environment, society, and culture.

5 Learning Objectives Students will be able to identify ways that they can conserve water. Students will be able to participate in a water clean-up simulation to identify how to clean and take care of water. Students will be able to identify ways that they can protect the earth’s water supply from pollution. Students will be able to state in their own words the importance of water in today’s society. Students will be able to Identify bodies of water and describe the groups of people that have relied on them.
