By Owen M., Willow W., and Camryn M.

Where is ecosystem located? In or near equator On or near Tropic of Cancer On Eastern Coast in shallow

Describe the abiotic factors of your ecosystem Water is 70-85 degrees Fahrenheit for the reef to survive Rocks help to form edges Sun helps the coral reef to grow Waves help shape the coral reef Coral reefs do not grow 230 feet or deeper

Producer: Algae. How does your producer rely on other organisms in the coral reefs to survive? Coral Polyps - algae eats coral polyps and polyps eat algae too Coral- algae grows on coral Sun-coral takes in sun and produces oxygen and carbon dioxide

How do other organisms of your ecosystem rely on your producer to survive? Blue Tang eat algae Coral Polyps also eat algae Damselfish, Sea Urchins, and Rabbitfish eat algae Sea cucumbers eat many different kinds of algae Giant clams eat algae

How do humans affect your ecosystem? Pollution with garbage People drive boats over the coral reefs They take for decorations (poaching) Put signs so people won’t damage coral reed

Choose one biotic or abiotic factor in your ecosystem & describe how a change in one of these could affect your ecosystem. Change: take away carnivores Herbivores would be overpopulated Herbivores would eat all the algae No more algae All the herbivores would die

Other interesting facts: Coral reefs were around 40,000,000 years ago Coral rolyps are related to jellyfish Coral reefs are the largest living structure Doctors use coral skeletons for bone repairs
