Region 6: Mid Columbia Meacham Creek, Floodplain Restoration Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation and the United States Forest Service combined efforts to restore Meacham Creek to recover important habitat processes and food sustainability. It is a story of working together toward common objectives, engineering creative solutions, and overcoming complex challenges. The purpose was to restore habitat for fish species, and to meet the First Foods mission of the Tribes. By restoring channel morphology and ecological processes, the Project achieved the Umatilla River Vision of an ecologically functional and healthy river system that supports the continued natural production of First Foods and their utilization by the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation community.
