1 Evaluation of International Scientific Journals on Disability Verdugo, M. A.; Porras, P. Instituto Universitario de Integración en la Comunidad (INICO) Universidad de Salamanca http://www.usal.es/inico Introduction The main goal of any scientific journal is the dissemination of the knowledge. The better the quality of the papers, the higher the status of the magazine. High quality journals are circumscribed to a field of knowledge The large amount of scientific information and the diversity of it sources, make it difficult to access to it Standardization of periodic publications it is required for the dissemination of the knowledgeMethods  Evaluation of scientific journal about disability (i.e. quality and presentation of the papers, degree of standardization, general situation)  Use of the UNE (Una Norma Española) norms, developed by AENOR (Asociación Española de Normalización)  Development of a checklist (53 items), based on the UNE norms, to analyse the periodic publication, summary, and articles  Ten international scientific journals were analysed: a) Five scientific journals with the highest factor impact, b) three related to different disabilities, and c) two Spanish scientific journals. The electronic edition of Social Science of the Journal Citation Reports was consulted Results Presence and availability of the analyzed elements and the degree of normalization obtained Impact Factor NPO (Level of Presence) y NUO (Level of Disposition) GNO (Degree of Normalization ) Discussion  Adequate degree of normalization and balance between the elements that exist and those that are correctly situated  Use of the APA’s rules, but not the ISO’s (International Organization for Standardization) norms  Keywords are not always included in the papers  Other language besides the English are required in the abstracts  Adequate structure of the articles: Introduction, Methods, Results and Discussion  It is necessary to include the acceptance date of the article Conclusion  It is necessary to improve the use of the normalization  Good quality of the information and the structure of the scientific papers  Language other than English are required  It is necessary to use the standardized norms by all the scientific committees of the journals References  ISI web of Knowledge. http://isiknowledge.com.
