3 PROLOGUE: 1. It was on a cold and snowy day, February, 1770 when a mob surrounded the house of Ebenezer Richardson-a Tory informer. 2.The mob had been protesting the Townsend Acts when it decided to attack Richardson’s house, breaking windows and throwing rocks. One hit his wife.

4 3.Richardson then loaded his gun and fired, mortally wounding 11- year- old Christopher Seider. 4.Richardson was arrested and charged with murder. (People were repeating rumors that the Brits were out to kill all 16,000 of them.)

5 SCENE ONE: 1.March 2, 1770 a Redcoat, Tom Walker went to John Gray’s shop to ask for work. 2. The owner told him to go clean the outhouse. So Walker punched Gray and the two fought. Walker ran for help.

6 SCENE TWO: 1. PVT. Hugh White,29th Regiment, was on guard duty on King Street when several youths came by to taunt his commander (for not paying his bills.) 2.Pvt. White used his musket to smash the face of a teen. Fifty others gathered to take on White. (Someone sounded the fire alarm which brought out more people.)

7 3.White yelled for reinforcements. Snowballs were flying everywhere. SCENE THREE: 1.Captain Tom Preston led 7 soldiers onto King Street with their bayonets fixed-now the crowd reached about 400. 2.The soldiers were able to reach White, and Preston attempted to march them back to their barracks, but the crowd blocked them.

8 3. Tories yelled from windows above to fire on the mob, and the crowd then dared them. SCENE FOUR 1. Preston took position in front of his men to prevent them from shooting. A big stick came flying through the air and smashed Pvt. Montgomery’s head, knocking him to the ground.

9 2. He got up, then discharged his weapon; the crowd. Other soldiers then fired. Pvt. Kilroy shot colonist Edward Langford and killed Crispus Attucks. 3. Finally, the crown dispersed and the soldiers retreated. At 2 A.M. a warrant was served on Preston and nine others- the charge was murder.

10 SCENE FIVE: 1.Preston’s men claimed that they had been ordered to fire. 2.Five colonists were dead: Crispus Attucks, Patrick Carr, Samuel Gray, Samuel Maverick and James Caldwell.

11 SCENE SIX: 1.The trial began on October 24 and lasted 6 days; the defense attorney was John Adams. 2.On October 31, Preston and his men were found not guilty of murder, however 2 were found guilty of manslaughter.
