2 Things you’ll need Baby Wipes - to quickly remove make-up (like after a show) Sea Breeze/Stridex - to clean the skin before any stage make-up is applied Cotton balls - to apply cleaner Pink or White CHEAP tissues (no lotion) - can be used to create wrinkles and to help apply cleaner. Also used to help blend make-up. Facial Moisturizer - after skin is cleaned - remember “a moisturized face is a happy face) Make-up wedges - used to apply foundation and cream based make-up Facial towel and a larger towel - to quickly clean “oops” Sharp Scissors - Used to cut things (wedges, stipple, crape) Old, button front shirt or smock - to cover costume from make-up Hair tie or bobby pins (men with long hair included) - to pull hair to hair line

3 Assorted brushed of many shapes and sizes - used to apply cream and liquid based make-up. Stipple - deposits small “drops of make-up on skin. Used to create 5 o’clock shadow Orange Stick - used to “cut” into wax skin effects

4 Brush Cleaner - to quickly clean brushes Liner Sharper - used to sharpen stick make-up Powder Puff - used to place powder on the skin

5 Make up categories Powder - make-up that is dry and is in fine particles. Usually is translucent powder. Comes in different shades. Used to “set” the make-up. Lasts up to 2 years. Use powder puff or big brush to apply.

6 Cake - pressed powder. Usually rouge or eye shadow, but can also be foundation. 1-2 years

7 Crème - between a powder and a liquid. Usually darker in color. Lipstick and color wheels are the most often used. Usually lasts 10-16 months

8 Liquid - Used when precision is necessary (i.e. sharp lines, wrinkles,etc). Most easily contaminated. Usually only lasts 2-6 months.

9 Foundation - make-up that is used as a base for actor’s skin - “removes” imperfections. Should make skin tone as closely as possible (for most general make-up designs).

10 Translucent Powder - Used to “set” the make-up after application. Applied with Powder Puff. Should also “match” skin tone approx.

11 Color Wheel - a device make-up artists use with several colors in it so they don’t need to buy lots of different colors separately. Bought by the effect.

12 Spirit Gum/Remover - “Glue” for make-up. Allows actors to stick things (ie facial hair or prosthetics) to their skin. Should always remove with Remover.

13 Nose/Scar wax - allows make-up designs to “build” up skin for special effects. Should “match” skin tone.

14 Stage Blood - Used to create fake blood effects on stage. 3 types - “Fresh scab”, Liquid, Thick

15 Latex- Used for wrinkles, scars, etc. Make of a liquid type of rubber.

16 Sealers, LiquiSet - Used to “set” the make- up for heavy sweaters.

17 Prosthetics - Fake body parts or effects “glued” onto the face with spirit gum (i.e. bald cap, fake nose, bullet wounds, etc)

18 Styles Moulage/SFX - “gore” make-up - used for “casualty simulation”

19 Stylized/SFX - Usually used in fantasy designs and/or when an actor needs to look like an animal or inanimate object (Cats, Beauty and the Beast, Cirque Du Soleil)

20 Period - Make-up that is designed to reflect the make-up choices of a specific period of time (Restoration, 40s, 60s,80s, etc)

21 Corrective - Used most often - make-up is used to correct actors physical attributes (i.e. nose too big, make eyes look bigger, etc)

22 Old Age - Actors need to be “advanced” in age through make-up. Achieved principally through the techiques of using HIGHLIGHT and SHADOW.
