2. The Balara Water Treatment Process
Raw water coming straight from the dams carries soil, dirt, and dissolved minerals. The raw water is first treated with chlorine to get rid of any germs.

Then “coagulants” are injected into the water to make the dissolved minerals and dirt lump together. The lumps either float or sink.

The water then passes through machines called “flocculators” that remove the dirt that floats.

Settling Basin
From the “flocculators”, the water passes through large pools called “settling basins” to remove dirt that settles at the bottom.

Filter beds
Finally, the water flows through several filter beds that act like very fine strainers, each one finer than the next, to remove microscopic impurities.

After even the smallest impurities have been removed, the water is again injected with chlorine gas to kill any microbes or germs that may contaminate the water before it reaches your taps.

8. Everyday, Manila Water takes over a hundred water samples from the eastern part of Metro Manila.They test these samples to make sure that the water we get from our faucets is safe to drink.
