20 Challenges into the future To be competitive AND Fair Trade in the international market Higher expectations to pass audits, which means higher investment. Artisan illiteracy can make it difficult to maintain records for audits. Bigger retail franchises prefer buying from bigger factories but need to convince them our model of working Unwillingness of professional product designers to work in smaller towns like Moradabad and the cost of hiring such professionals.

22 BOO ENTERPRISE (Beginning Other Opportunities Through Enterprise) was established in 2010 by Becky Barber, a Design graduate from the University of Plymouth, whose parents originally went to Madagascar over 25 years ago.

23 Giving people in Madagascar the dignity of learning a craft and skill for life.

24 EVERY PRODUCT CARRIES A LABEL WITH THE NAME OF THE PERSON THAT HAS MADE IT. This shows that the staff at BOO train and work directly with local people in rural communities in Madagascar and have done since the very beginning. There is no middle importer or hidden source.
