SCARCE SKILLS IN WATER: THE ROLE OF ESETA PRESENTED BY MILLIE RASEKOALA Energy Sector Education and Training Authority

VISION ESETA: “the leading facilitator of world – class skills for energy and water “

MISSION Our Mission is to: “facilitate skills development for Energy & Water Sector stakeholders, through providing integrated, value-added education and training services”.

NATIONAL PRORITIES Speeding up economic growth and transforming the economy to create decent work and sustainable livelihoods Massive programme to build economic and social infrastructure Comprehensive rural development strategy linked to land and agrarian reform and food security Strengthen our skills and human resources base

NATIONAL PRORITIES Improve the health profile of the nation Intensify the fight against crime and corruption Build cohesive, caring and sustainable communities Pursuing African advancement and enhanced international co operation Sustainable Resource Management and use Building a Developmental State including improvement of public services and strengthening democratic institutions

NATIONAL PRORITIES Speeding up economic growth and transforming the economy to create decent work and sustainable livelihoods Solar power installation technicians/practioners Water purification systems? Irrigation systems (reusable water, rain water harvesting) Massive programme to build economic and social infrastructure Housing: provision of solar power for electrification Heating systems: cooking systems (solar power) Wind turbines? Comprehensive rural development strategy linked to land and agrarian reform and food security water, irrigation needs, initiatives for the provision of irrigation systems for small communities, energy requirements for farming windmills?

NATIONAL PRORITIES Strengthen our skills and human resources base Ensuring the implementation of learnerships, internships, bursaries and skills programmes Improve the health profile of the natio n Health promotion practitioners to assist with training in sanitation Intensify the fight against crime and corruption Community watch (youth groups) provision of rechargeable lighting equipment

NATIONAL PRORITIES Build cohesive, caring and sustainable communities Rainwater harvesting for small scale farming Effective use of water Effective use of energy Solar power Solar heating Bio fuels (one person creating bio fuel for his car. Thus possible to intro to communities.) Pursuing African advancement and enhanced international co operation Sustainable Resource Management and use Convert waste into bio-fuel (maize?) dumps when put properly produces bio-gas is produced ( Sweden example, town heating from this source) Waste management re-utilisation

NATIONAL PRORITIES Is there a current need for initiatives like these? Is it being addressed? If so by who?, Seta, Stakeholders What kind of reach would be achieved? (impact) What are the other entities doing? How do we support e.g how computers are to be powered in rural communities (joint initiatives) Sustainable communities- Canada Best practise Trends and best practise Brazil, India, Austraia, New Zealand, Canada Scandinavian countries (environmental activities) Pilots and proof of concepts to test assumptions and create a test bed for projects such as bio-fuel etc before deployment. Building a Developmental State including improvement of public services and strengthening democratic institutions
