Short term benefits Reduce feelings of depression and anxiety Weight control Promotes psychological well-being Long term benefits Lower risk of dying prematurely Lower risk of developing heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure Builds strong bones, muscles, and joints to prevent injuries

5 THREE MAIN TYPES OF EXERCISE Aerobic exercise, aka “cardio” Jogging Swimming Strength Training, aka resistance training Weightlifting Body building Flexibility Training

6 EXERCISE IN A CRUNCH What are some exercises you do when time is tight? What are some exercises that are easy to do in your dorm room? Ideas?! REMEMBER: It is better to exercise for at least a short amount of time than to not exercise at all!

7 FITNESS AT UNC There are several great ways to get moving at UNC Campus Rec offers gym access, group fitness classes, and intramural sports Student organizations and sport clubs In the community – trails, gyms, yoga studios, etc.

8 FITNESS TIPS Know when to take a break Hydrate! Visit Campus Health Services if you think you have injured yourself or have recurring symptoms while exercising Exercise buddies
