The Muscular System Notes

Note- The Muscular Systems I. The Muscular System A. Muscles are the motors that move body parts. B. There are more than 600 muscles in your body. C. Two kinds of muscles

Notes- The Muscular System 1.Voluntary a.You control them b. Skeletal muscles: arm, leg, face 2. Involuntary a.You cannot consciously control them. b.Blood is pumped through blood vessels. c.Food is moved through the digestive system. http://www.clccharter.org

Notes: The Muscular Systems D. Three types of muscles tissue. 1.Skeletal (striated) a.Most numerous b. Voluntary : you control them c. Appear striped (striated under the microscope

Notes on the Muscular Notes d. Attached to bones with tendons : thick bands that pull on a bone as the muscle contracts e. Contract quickly and tire easily

Notes on The Muscular System 2. Smooth a. Involuntary b. Walls of stomach, intestines, uterus, bladder, blood vessels are lined with smooth muscles. c. No stripes (no striations) d. Contract and relax slowly

Note: The Muscular System Continue 3. Cardiac a.Involuntary b.Found only in the heart c.Striped (striated) d.Contracts about 70 times per minute

Notes: The Muscular System Continues How do muscles work ? A.Skeletal muscles work in pairs. B.When one muscle of a pair contracts, the other relaxes. C.Muscles always pull, never push.

Notes: The Muscular System Continues D. Muscles use energy in the form of glucose. E. Muscle also produce thermal energy (heat), F. Muscles can become larger or smaller depending on the amount of work they do. G. Large and small muscles must have rest time to be resupplied with glucose (sugar). Glucose ATP (energy )
