2 Wingate Anaerobic Test (WanT)
Is the most popular anaerobic test Gauges the energy produced during phosphagen breakdown (ATP-PC system) and anaerobic glycolysis

3 Three measures derived from the WanT
1. Peak power Reflects the phosphagen component Is the greatest work performed during any five-second period 2. Mean power Reflects the glycolytic and phosphagen components Is the total work performed during the 30-second test 3. Fatigue Index Reflects the anaerobic fatigue capabilities of the active muscle Higher fatigue index indicates a greater proportion of fast-twitch fibers

4 Example for Peak Power, Mean Power, and Fatigue Index Computations

5 Peak Power Formula 0.075 kg resistance x kg of body weight
x 6 (the distance in m traveled by the cycle ergometer flywheel in one revolution) x greatest number of revolutions of the flywheel in a 5-second period = peak power kgm · 5 sec-1 To convert to watts: peak power kgm · 5 sec-1 x 12 / 6.12

x 9 = 270 kgm · 5 sec-1 x 12 / 6.12 = Watts Percentile rank = 80 (Table 1.1)

7 Mean Power Formula 0.075 kg resistance x kg of body weight x 6
x number of revolutions of the flywheel in the 30-second period = mean power kgm · 30 sec-1 To convert to Watts: Mean power kgm · 30 sec-1 x 2 / 6.12

8 Mean Power Example 150 lb. healthy female in her mid-twenties
x 43 = 1290 kgm · 30 sec-1 x 2 / 6.12 = Watts Percentile rank = 80 (Table 1.2)

Fatigue Index Formula greatest work in 5-sec. period − lowest work performed in 5-sec. period greatest work in 5-sec. period x 100

10 Fatigue Index Example 9 − 5 = 4/9 = .444 x 100 = 44.4
Percentile rank = 80 (Table 1.1)
