6 Hansa Coking Plant Dortmund The Hansa Coking Plant started work in 1928. The large coking plants produced the high quantities of coke needed by the metallurgical plants for the production of raw iron. During peak periods, 5.200 tons of coke were produced. The plant obtained the hard coal it needed for the production of coke from the nearby Zechen (coal mines). The coke produced by the plant was then delivered to the nearby Hüttenwerk Dortmunder Union. The coking plant was closed in 1992. Since 1998, most of the plant components have had landmark status.
