Anime is commonly defined as animation originating in Japan. Both hand-drawn and computer-animated anime exist. Anime has a very adult orientated target market as many have huge amount of gore and explicit details. Most anime's are based on manga’s( Japanese comic books) which are usually based on things such as folklore and history. Anime began at the start of the 20th century, when Japanese filmmakers experimented with the animation techniques also pioneered in France, Germany, the United States, and Russia. The oldest known anime in existence first screened in 1917 – a two-minute clip of a samurai trying to test a new sword on his target, only to suffer defeat. 8 CGI is used in films, television programs, commercials and video games. CGI is used for visual effects because the quality is better and effects can be controlled more than other more physical based graphics. Some films created by CGI are the Shrek series, the toy story series, finding nemo and Monsters inc

Cel-shaded animation is how you edit computer graphics and make them seem hand drawn. This is done by making a 3d atmosphere then drawing over it. An example of this is would be some of the Zelda game series. By Using Cel shaded animation it gives the game/films a cartoony look. An example from Zelda the Windwaker game from GameCube

Rotoscoping is a technique used by animators in which they trace over live-action film movement, frame by frame to create animations. The technique was invented by Max Fleischer, who used it in his series Out of the Inkwell starting around 1915 Created by Edward Muybridge these are two different example of Rotoscoping Live action films Star Wars trilogy (lightsaber effects) Tron (1982) Forrest Gump (1994) Waking Life (2001) Cicak Man (2006) Juno (2007) A Scanner Darkly (2006) Video games Prince of Persia (1989) Flashback (1992) The Last Express (1997) Hotel Dusk: Room 215 (2007) Borderlands (video game) (2009) Last Window: The Secret of Cape West (2010) Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective (2011) Dead Island (2011)

Stop motion is an animation technique to make a piece of equipment look like its moving on its own. This is done by slowly moving the object while taking individual pictures then putting them frame by frame thereby creating a stop motion animation. A well known stop motion animator is Aardman, even though they use clay which they call Claymation. Wallace and Gromit are there most well known a second of film constitutes 24 separate frames which shows why these films take a long time to create. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=acg4mp Q98Qo

Shrek- Shrek is an animated ogre who appears in DreamWorks Shrek, Shrek 2,Shrek the third and Shrek forever after. Voiced by mike Myers the green ogre became a cult hit with the way they re interpreted old fairy tale classics and incorporated them into the film. The film was created using CGI. Buzz lightyear- Buzz is an animated space ranger who shot to fame as part of the toy story franchise. As one of the main protagonists in the first fully CGI featured film the film became one of the highest selling film winning numerous animation awards. Wallace- Know for his starring role in Wallace and gromit, Aardmans creation using stop motion (or claymation more specifically) became a sensation after the release of a grand day out. The technique made it take a long time to create but they went in to film in the late in the mid 21 st century with Wallace and gromit curse of the were rabbit. Bugs bunny-Bugs Bunny is a fictional main character who starred in the Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies series of animated films produced by Warner brothers.

 Chuck Jones- was an American animator, cartoon artist, screenwriter, producer, and director of animated films. He was best know for the Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies series for the Warner Bros.  Ub Iwerks-Ub Iwerks was a two-time Academy Award winning American animator, cartoonist, inventor and special effects technician. He also made his first feature-length film, Chicken Run which was followed in 2005 by Wallace and gromit- Curse of the were rabbit. He uses stop motion to create his films and has won many best animation film wards.

Motion capture is a computer animation technique which involves tracking an actor’s physical movements and applying them to animate a computer-generated model. The most famous example of motion capture is Gollum in Lord of the Rings (LOTR). Although the Gollum you see on screen is an entirely digital creation, his movements are those of the actor Andy Serkis. Serkis wore a motion capture suit covered in reflectors which were tracked by 24 cameras. His physical performance was then transferred onto the computer- generated Gollum model http://www.hitlabnz.org/Lord_of_the_Rings _Motion_Capture
