Secondary Cells and Fuel Cells To Wing Yin F.6B (11)

Secondary cells  A secondary cell is any kind of electrolytic cell in which the electrochemical reaction that releases energy is reversible.  Rechargeable  eg. Lead-acid cell, lithium battery

Application of Lead-acid cell  Automotive and traction applications.  Standby/Back- up/Emergency power for electrical installations.  Submarines  Sealed battery types available for use in portable equipment

Lithium ion battery  rechargeable  Use in portable consumer electronics equipment such as cameras, camcorders, electric razors

Lithium polymer batteries  rechargeable batteries which have technologically evolved from lithium ion batteries  often called Solid State cells because there's no liquid  long storage lives, but low discharge rates.  Used in PDAs and laptop computers

Fuel Cell  A fuel cell is an electrochemical energy conversion device.  Consists of 2 electrodes and electrolyte.  consume reactants which must be replenished.  Many combinations of fuel and oxidant are possible such as oxygen and hydrogen.

How Fuel Cell works?

Fuel cell Application  combined heat and power (CHP) system high efficiency silent operation  mobile equipment such as phones and "laptop" computers  electric vehicles  spacecraft
