8 Defining the Roof Properties
The Properties palette consists of edit fields to define the shape, overhang, and slope of the roof. The roof is based upon a specified slope and plate height. The Workspace options of the roof are: Shape Gable Overhang overhangValue PHeight PRise PSlope UHeight URise USlope Match

9 Specifying Roof Point Locations
When the RoofAdd command is executed the Properties Palette opens as shown at right. Respond to the command line prompts to specify roof points. Select points using the Endpoint, Intersection, or Node object snap Points selected are located at the bottom of the wall with a Z coordinate= 0

Select the roof, right click and select Edit Edges/Faces from the shortcut as shown below. Respond to the command prompts as shown below. Select a roofedge: (Select roof edge at p1 shown below.) Select a roofedge: ~EnterKey~ (Press the ~EnterKey~ to end selection and open the Roof Edges and Faces dialog box.) Edit the Roof Edges and Faces dialog box, click in the Overhang column of the top Roof Edges section, overtype the overhang value to 12 then click in the Roof Faces by Edge click in the Slope column and overtype the slope value to 90 as shown below. Pick OK to close the Roof Edges and Faces dialog box. Slope of roof changed as shown at right.

23 Steps to Using Grips to Create a Gable Roof
1. Select a roof to display its grips. 2. Select the ridge grip at p1 as shown below. 3. Stretch the hot grip to the left; specify the new location by selecting a point to the left near p2 as shown in B below. 4. Press Escape to remove the display of grips. The hip roof plane is converted to a gable as shown in C below.

33 Closing a Roof Slab with Direction
The roof slab is created by selecting two points to specify the pivot point and baseline, and then selecting Ortho close from the shortcut menu. The Direction property specified in the Properties palette allows you to create a roof slab to the left or right of the first roof edge line

Ortho close option can also be used after specifying a series of points as shown at right. The roof shape is completed as necessary to form a right angle between the last roof edge and the first roof edge segment

Select a series of points to specify roof slab vertices, right click and select Close. Last segment is created to close to the first edge without regard to the angle formed.

Select Roof Slab of the Design palette, right click and choose Apply Tool Properties to>Linework, Walls and Roof Select roof, walls or polylines: (Select polyline at p1 shown at right.) Select a roof, choose Convert from the Modify panel of the Roof tab. Select a roof, choose Convert to Roof Slabs from the shortcut menu.

Select a Roof choose Convert from the Modify panel. The Convert to Roof Slabs dialog box opens. Specify a Roof Slab Style and clear Erase Layout Geometry check box, to retain the roof object. Each plane of the roof is converted to a roof slab as shown at lower right.

Select the roof, right click and select Convert to Roof Slabs. The Convert to Roof Slabs dialog box opens as shown below. Specify the roof slab style and respond to the Erase Layout Geometry check box. Select OK to dismiss the Convert to Roof Slabs dialog box.

Specify side to be trimmed: (Select a point near p3 as shown below.) Roof slab is trimmed as shown at right below.

Select a roof slab and select Add from the Vertex flyout of the Modify panel in the Roof Slab tab. Specify point for new vertex: _mid of (Hold the ~ShiftKey~ down, right click and select Mid from the shortcut; then select the edge near p1.) Select the slab to verify the new vertex grip point.

Select a roof slab and choose Add from the Hole flyout menu of the Modify panel in the Roof Slab contextual tab. Respond to the workspace prompts as follows: Select closed polyline or connected solid objects to define a hole: (Select the polyline at p1 as shown at right.) Select closed polyline or connected solid objects to define a hole: (Press ENTER to end selection.) Erase layout geometry? [Yes/No]<No>: ENTER ( Choose No.)

Select the roof slab at p1 and choose Body Modifier Select objects to apply as body modifiers: (Select mass element at p2) Select objects to apply as body modifiers: Enter (Press Enter to end selection.) Edit the Add Body Modifier dialog box. Choose Replace from the Operation drop-down and Erase Selected Objects.

To determine the valley intersections of multiple roof slabs: Create a mass group Use the mass group to identify where the planes intersect Draw a polyline that traces the intersection, and use this polyline as a cutting object with the RoofSlabCut command to remove the unnecessary extension of the roof slab

Create a Mass Group to view the roof intersection. Draw a polyline to specify cutting line of roof slabs. Use the RoofSlabCut command to cut roof slabs

57 Steps to Cutting and Editing Roof Slabs Based Upon the Roof Intersection
1.  View the roof from Top. Draw a polyline that traces the intersection of the roof using the Intersection object snap The polyline is shown at p5 in the isometric view. 2.  Select Southwest Isometric from the View flyout. Select the group right-click and choose Detach and detach the roof slabs from the group. 3.    Select the roof slab at p6 as shown at right, right click and select Cut from the short-cut menu. Respond to the workspace prompts as shown below. Select cutting objects (a polyline or connected solid objects): (Select the polyline at p5.) Select cutting objects (a polyline or connected solid objects): ~EnterKey~ Erase layout geometry [Yes/No] <No>:N ~EnterKey~ 4.      Repeat step 3 to cut the p7 plane. 5.      Erase the roof planes which penetrate into the building, slabs at p8 and p9.

59 Roof Slab Styles Roof slab styles include preset values for thickness and predefined roof slab edge styles. Fascia, soffit, and frieze components can be assigned to roof slab edge styles of the roof slab. Materials can be assigned to the roof slab to represent the roofing materials. The Standard roof slab style is the default roof slab style when a roof slab is inserted. Fourteen roof slab styles are included in the Design Tool Catalog.

Roof Slab Edge Styles are assigned to a roof slab to represent fascia, frieze, and soffit.
