History of Trigonometry By Jessica Walker I love trig

What’s my topic? Trigonometry 30 cm 36 44 P Q R S T

Why am I interested? This is basically the only branch in math I am half decent at, and plus I do like it! It’s generally just a fun time

What is trigonometry? A branch of mathematics that studies triangles and the relationships between their side lengths and angles between those sides 7 cm 3 cm For example here is a picture of a triangle with two labeled sides and one angle. Even with this little information all sides and all angles can be found. This is because of the triangles’ relationship between the sides and angles. This can be solved through sine law

Why is it important? Trigonometry is important for many reasons! 1. To get an education (you might not need to use trigonometry in your everyday life, but you will need to learn it to pass math on a 20 level or you can’t graduate :P) 2. To teach (you might have kids one day, they might need help, you never know :P) 3. Trigonometry is everywhere!!! *see next slide* 4. To understand the basics of something and where is came from (having knowledge makes you wiser then you already are) 5. It’s, uhhh, fun!

Trigonometry to build and create! To see and to understand! and in things you enjoy and love In nature,

History: where did it originate? Believe it or not trigonometry dates all the way back to the early ages of Egypt and Babylon Angles were measured in degrees and Greek Astronomer Hipparchus complied a trigonometry table that measured the length of the chord subtending the various angles of a circle with a fixed radius “r” Hipparchus was known as the father of trigonometry and considered the founder of the science of trigonometry

History continued: Where does the term trigonometry come from? Taken from the Greek words “trigonon” meaning triangle and “metria” meaning measure. The word literally means triangle measurement!

History con: regarding trigonometric functions Aryabhata (476 CE - 550 CE) discovered sine and cosine Muhammad (780 CE - 850 CE) discovered the tangent Albert Girard (1595-1632), was the first to use the abbreviations sin, cos, and tan.

Why is it important, again? How is it nawt Just kidding! I truly think it is important to just learn! Life is learning and having knowledge is great!

What did I learn? When trigonometry was introduced Where trigonometry came from What “trigonometry” actually means Who were the founders and what did they discover Who was the first man to use sOh cAh tOa
