Who was “Kidd the Pirate”?  Pirate born in Scotland in 1645  Pursued French and eventually pirate ships who interfered with British and American trade  In time, however, he became a pirate himself  In 1699, he returned to New York, hoping to be pardoned  En route, he buried or gave away large amounts of treasure.  Was arrested and returned to Boston where he was hanged for murder and piracy in 1701.  Rumors concerning the buried treasure of Captain Kidd have persisted for over 300 years!
