Can Dash really run on water? Jim Dugan Jesse Kreuzmann

Still Frame 1

Still Frame 2

Calculations 44/16=11/4=2.75 proportion modifier a 2 +b 2 =c 2 – 75*75+46*46=7741 – Sqrt(7741)=87.98 px 87.98px*4 feet/44px=7.998 ft 7.998 ft*proportion modifier= 7.998*11/4=21.995 ft

Calculations Time=.275 seconds Velocity=distance/time=21.995/.275= 79.98ft/sec=54.53mph=24.38m/s=87.768km/h Threshold for running on water around 80 hm/h Or 25 m/s for average person. He’s even smaller, so he probably can.

In-Class Experiment Jesse Average Distance(cm)Measured Time(s)Calculated Time(s) 15.259.175 15.359.175 15.211.175 14.169 14.169 13.163 14.33.276.171 Jim 22.268.211 15.249.175 14.254.169 18.192 16.181 15.175 16.666.257.1838

Calculations Free-fall object accelerates at g or 9.8 m/s/s down(a) Initial velocity is 0 m/s.(V) Distance in m varied with each drop(X) Solving for time in seconds(t) X=Vt+1/2at*t t=sqrt(2X/g) Ex. Distance=15 cm – T=sqrt(2*.15/9.8)=.175 seconds

Analysis The measured times were always larger than the calculated times which is likely due to the measures reaction time slowing down the recording. Superheroes such as dash, are moving over a distance of twenty feet in the time our meterstick moves about 1. For a realistic(slow) superhero like Dash his reaction time would have to be twenty times faster. Others would have to be even faster.

Analysis Our Nerve Speed – V=1meter/(.171+1/30)=4.894 m/s Dash Nerve Speed – V=20*4.894=97.879 m/s Supersonic Hero Nerve Speed – V=340.29 (Speed of sound)/25(speed to run on water)*97.879= 1.332e3 m/s
