2 “War is Humanity at its Most Human” Read the handout on Just War  What is Just War?  Answer the final question on the sheet  Using the criteria listed for a Just war and Just fighting list as many wars as you can think of that can be considered Just  From what you know about WWII was it a just war? Consider the statement in the heading of this slide. Do you agree or disagree with the statement? Why?

3 Blue Card/Red Card If you have a Blue Card please take out a piece of paper and something write with and stand in the back of the room You may not use the desks for the following activity You must remain standing throughout the following activity

What scared you the most about being attacked? How did things change for Arab Americans (or people who looked Arab American)? Why? The USA Patriot Act stands for: Uniting and Strengthening America by Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism Act of 2001  It gives the FBI the power to conduct searches of your personal items including your home, your email, your medical records and your phone calls without your permission  It also give the government the right to detain or deport immigrants indefinitely Why was this act created? Was it justified?

How is the Patriot Act and Japanese Internment a suspension of Habeas Corpus? 4. How might the Patriot Act and Japanese internment prove the statement that “war is humanity at its most human”? How might they prove it to be false? 5. What do you think the Red Card stood for? What do you think the Blue Card stood for? 6. Because I am the teacher did students in the blue section feel that it was better to just go along with my instructions or to protest against them? Why? 7. How did my actions make students in the blue section feel? How did my actions make students in the red section feel? 8. Did students in the red section feel at all inconvenienced by what happened to students in the blue section? 9. In light of the Atomic Bomb and Japanese Internment can WWII be a Just War?
