1 Stop, drop, and walk! How to worship, how to walk. 7-5-10 camp

God Seeks True Worshippers. The Father Seeks a certain kind of worshipper! (John 4:23) Heb 12:28 Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe, for our "God is a consuming fire." 2

STOP DROP WALK 3

STOP We must stop living for ourselves, stop doing what WE think is right or religious. 4

Worship ALWAYS has an object Worship always has an object. Focus on the object Acts 17:23 For as I walked around and looked carefully at your objects of worship… 5

Where is your object of worship? Idols are wrong objects of worship. When Peter or the angel was worshiped there was rebuke. When Jesus was worshiped he did not rebuke. Jesus allowed himself to be worshiped. It is proof that he was God because God is the only one to be worshiped! 6

Wrong meanings of Worship The Christian world promotes bad concepts. They have “worship services” “worship leaders” “worship has ___ number of functions” “houses of worship” None of these terms come from a spiritual or scriptural understanding. 7

8 Rule following is not Worship! Matt 15:8 "'These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. They worship me in vain; their teachings are but rules taught by men.'"

9 Worship before the Well Exo 3:12 And God said, "I will be with you. And this will be the sign to you that it is I who have sent you: When you have brought the people out of Egypt, you will worship God on this mountain. “ GOD was and is always the object of worship.

10 What happened at the well?

What changed at the well? John 4:20-24 20 Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, but you Jews claim that the place where we must worship is in Jerusalem." 21 Jesus declared, "Believe me, woman, a time is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem. The object does not change, but the HOW and the where is changing! 11

What changed at the well? John 4:20-24 23 Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. 24 God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth.“ Notice the HOW is mentioned. Spirit and truth not spirit equals truth! 12

13 Regulation worship is gone Col 2:23 regulation worship (show) is of no value. Heb 9:1 The first covenant had regulations for worship When did this change? The time is coming and NOW IS when true worshipers will worship in spirit and in truth. This changed at the well.

DROP Drop to your knees in reverent worship. Bow to God and worship him only! Lay your life down. 14

15 Worship: proskuneo {pros-koo-neh'-o} To kiss, like a dog licking his master's hand 1) to kiss another’s hand, in token of reverence 2) to fall upon the knees and touch the ground with the forehead in homage to another Used to show: profound reverence, obeisance, respect or superior rank We rise when other cultures fall.

16 Posture in Worship Most of the time Falling down comes with worship. Hands together, hands held high, hands on the ground are all positions where your hands are not serving you. The sloppy dog is not thinking about himself. Kissing the hand of someone is other focused.

WALK Learn to walk with God 17

Enoch knew how We sometimes think Enoch had something special, some mystical connection of “walking with God”. Maybe we think that state is not achievable for us? Heb 11:5 tells us Enoch "he pleased God" Abraham, Isaac, Jacob “walked with God” 18

Walking Instructions. Deu 8:6 Observe the commands of the LORD your God, walking in his ways and revering him. Notice revere? This is true worship. 19

20 Walking Requirements Mic 6:8 He has showed you, O man, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God. Walking with God like Enoch is not only achievable, it is required!

Consider Romans 12:1 Romans 12:1 Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God-- this is your spiritual act of worship. What is our posture? Where is the object? Where is the walk? 21

22 We CAN walk with God 1 John 1:7 If we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin. I have called you friends.

23 Stop focusing on yourself. Drop to your knees in reverent worship. Walk with God.
