☀ Grasslands ☀ By Jaiden, Angelo, Gabriel
2
Where is ecosystem located? Grasslands can be found just about anywhere The Great Plains stretch from Canada to Texas Grasslands cover one quarter of the earth
3
Describe the abiotic factors of your ecosystem Grasslands grow where forests can’t grow but is not desert Grasslands usually get 10 to 30 inches of rain every 12 months Few grasslands get snow
4
Producer: Grass. How does your producer rely on other organisms to survive? Relies on fire to burn grass to let it grow back healthier Wind blows seeds in places to grow more grass Dung beetles clean grass by burying animal droppings
5
How do other organisms of your ecosystem rely on your producer to survive? Trees rely on grass to get water to survive Blackgrouse, Meadow Quail, and other Birds build their nests on ground and grass hides babies and eggs Elk, Bison, and Cattle eat grass and grass grows back
6
How do humans affect your ecosystem? Farmers grow non-native plants on grasslands People plant wild grass seeds to bring back grasslands Controlled fires kill shrubs Pesticides and plows ruin the homes of burrowing animals
7
Choose one biotic or abiotic factor in your ecosystem & describe how a change in one of these could affect your ecosystem. Change: take away grass Birds would not be able to make nest Certain animals would not have food to eat Farms would be ruined Rabbits, mice, and prairie dogs would not have homes Insects would overpopulate
8
Other interesting facts: Prairie grass can grow in water Prairies are known for rich soil Some grasslands are turned into parks Fires are usual in grasslands The USA has 20 national grasslands in the whole country
