2 WHAT IS ADDITION? Definition: If A and B are non-negative numbers, then we can define the sum A+B as the total numbers, then we can define the sum A+B as the total number of objects we will have if we start with A objects and then get B more objects

5 CANDY EXAMPLE PROBLEM Your teacher gives you 2 recces pieces. At lunch time your friend gives you 1 more recess pieces. How many pieces of recess pieces do you have?

7 HOW MANY MORE RECCES PIECES DID YOUR FRIEND GIVE YOU AT LUNCH 1 Piece

8 HOW MANY RECESS PIECES DO YOU HAVE NOW? How many pieces did your teacher give you? How many pieces did you friend give you? Count the total number of pieces. How many pieces did you count?

24 WHAT IS SUBTRACTION? Definition: If A and B are non- negative numbers such that A is greater than or equal to B, then we can define the difference A-B as the total number of objects we will have if we start with A objects and take away B of those objects.
