Child Nutrition Goals 3 To provide an appealing, delicious, nutrient enriched meal that satisfies the nutritional requirements as determined by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) To help students and adults learn the value of a healthy lifestyle through the application of the PSD Wellness Policy

4 All school sites serve breakfast and lunch Meal nutritional value is based on federal guidelines PSD implements a “Traditional Food-Based” menu and an “offer vs. serve” selection method The “offer vs. serve” method allows the student to choose items they like and reduces waste School Cafeteria Meal Service

5 Students choose from five different food items Meat or meat alternative Vegetable Fruit Grains/bread Milk Students may choose all five components but must select a minimum of three School Cafeteria Meal Service

School Breakfast Meal Pattern 6 Age GroupKindergarten thru 3rd Grade 4th thru 6th Grade 7th and 8th Grade Meat or Meat Alternative 1 oz. Grains/Bread (serving) 1 serving A serving consists of: 2 oz. meat or meat alternative or 2 bread servings or 1 oz. m/ma and 1 bread. Vegetable or Fruit (combined) 1/2 cup Milk, Fluid (as a beverage) 8 oz. (1 cup)

Cafeteria Menu 8 A menu selection is created for the full year The menu selection repeats approximately every four weeks Menu substitutions by the District may be made to accommodate special occasions Menus are available at the school site, Child Nutrition office, Welcome Center, and on the web page

Meal Payment 11 Cash or Check Send in a sealed envelope with students name printed clearly Make checks payable to school cafeteria Checks that do not clear the bank charge PSD a fee; this fee will be passed on to the parent Pre-Payment Option Parents may pay for meals in advance online at www.mynutrikids.com Monies paid online are credited to your account within 24 hours

12 Free or Reduced Price Meals Free or Reduced Price Meal Applications –Available at school site, district office, or online One application per household (per EC definition of a family unit living together) Separate applications are required for foster children Turn in application at school site or district office Qualification will be determined within 10 working days

Meal Pay System 15 Students are assigned a 6 digit personal identification number (PIN) Students enter their PIN number into the meal pay keypad in the cafeteria

Conclusion 16 Child Nutrition’s mission is to assure that all students are fed healthy meals on a daily basis Our goal is to make sure that both our students and parents are served to the best of our ability
