2 After completing fourteen home-study Army Extension Courses, Reagan enlisted in the Army Enlisted Reserve He was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant. On April 18, 1942 he was put into active duty for the first time. Put into limited service, because of his eyesight, keeping him from overseas travel. He was separated from active duty on December 9, 1945. By the end of the war, his units produced 400 training films for the AAF.

3 His first job in radio was a sports broadcaster for the University of Iowa Hawkeyes. He also found work in Des Moines and Davenport. His specialty was giving play- by-play accounts of the sorts action by wire to the radio stations. His first credit in film was his 1937 role in the movie Love Is In The Air

4 Regan began as a very liberal democrat, but began to lean to the right and focus on conservatism and business. Governor of California, 1967–1975

5 In 1976, Reagan challenged President Gerald Ford to become the Republican Party's candidate for president. Regan ran as a conservative. Though he lost the nomination, he received: 307 votes in New Hampshire 388 votes as an Independent on Wyoming One electoral vote from a faithless elector in the November election

6 His campaign stressed some of his fundamental principles: lower taxes to stimulate the economy less government interference in people's lives states' rights a strong national defense. Reagan won the election, carrying 44 states with 489 electoral votes

7 1981–1989 Reagan pursued policies that reflected his personal beliefs. He believed in individual freedom He brought many changes domestically, to the U.S. economy and military He contributed to the end of the Cold War.

8 On March 30, 1981, only 69 days into the new administration, he and several others were struck by gunfire making this his first assassination attempt. Reagan emphasized policies based on supply-side economics and used a liberal and laissez-faire philosophy He sought to stimulate the economy with large tax cuts.

9 Reagan was sworn in as president for the second time on January 20, 1985, in a private ceremony at the White House. January 20 fell on a Sunday, so a public celebration was did not occur. A public celebration was held in the Capitol Rotunda the following day. Halfway into his second term, Reagan declared more militant policies in the War on Drugs. By the early 1980s, the USSR had built up a military arsenal and army surpassing that of the United States. The Berlin Wall was torn down beginning in 1989 and two years later the Soviet Union collapsed.

10 After leaving office in 1989, the Regan Family purchased a home in Bel-Air, Los Angeles. In August 1994, at the age of 83, Reagan was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease Reagan died at his home in Bel Air, California on the afternoon of June 5, 2004
