5 Dori Slosberg Driver Education Safety Act
Funds driver education programs in public and nonpublic schools to enhance driver education and safety Currently in Orange County, the funds are only used for the direct driving educational expenses via the “behind the wheel program” The Orange County Clerk of the Court collects $3.00 per civil traffic penalty for the fund

6 Orange County & FLVS Partnership
FLVS administers Orange County’s portion of the Dori Slosberg Funds on behalf of the Orange County Board of Commissioners (OCBCC) per interlocal agreement dated 4/26/2011 FLVS reports fund expenditures, via an annual report, to the commission per interlocal agreement Dori Slosberg funds received BY OCBCC are dispersed upon review and approval of the annual report FLVS contracts with the Florida Safety Council (FSC) to pay for student “behind the wheel” driving for any Orange County student

7 Orange County & FLVS Partnership
The current contract with FSC ended August of 2014 Per state purchasing policy, FLVS issued an RFP for the “behind the wheel” services. The contract has been awarded to FSC contingent on the rate increase. Finalizing the new contract requires commission approval of the requested rate increase

8 Overview of FSC’s Rate Request
The current rate is $88 per session, with a maximum of 3 sessions FSC is requesting an additional $5 per session, for a total of $93 per session, with a maximum of 3 sessions In 2014, the total cost for 7,352 “behind the wheel” hours were $323,488.00 For 2015, the projected cost for 7,352 “behind the wheel” hours is $341,868.00, if the request is approved $18, additional increase

9 FSC Factors For Rate Request
There have been no adjustments for increases in fuel, maintenance and insurance for 3 years Student support services, labor, and overhead costs have increased from 2011 levels

10 FLVS Driver’s Education… Saving lives one student at a time
Driver’s Ed is a vital component needed to keep our roads safe in Florida. Learning the road signs and road rules with FLVS teachers and then taking a life saving “behind the wheel” training is a step in the right direction to finding ways to encourage teens to drive distraction free.
