On Tour With John Mayer This Presentation will take you on tour with the greatest solo artist of all time! Presented by: Brenny Souza Project 13: My Favorite Band or Solo Artist May, 26 th, 2011
Come backstage for a brief history of how it all began for John Mayer… It all began at a very young age, when his neighbor gave him his first Stevie Ray Vaughan cassette tape; therefore, it began Mayer’s love for the blues. Mayer started taking lessons from a local guitar-shop and soon became one with the instrument. After two years of practice, he started playing gigs at local blues bars, while he was still in high school. When it came to performing solo, he was a member of a band called Villanova Junction. He was so too in love with the instrument that he considered not going to college and just pursue his dream of music. When Mayer was seventeen, he was stricken with cardiac dysrhythmia and was hospitalized for a week. Through this, he wrote his first lyrics the night he got home from the hospital. Shortly, he began suffering from panic attacks, and feared that he might have to enter a mental institution. After graduation, he worked for fifteen months at a gas station until he saved enough money to buy a 1996 Stevie Ray Vaughan signature Stratocaster. He later decided to go to college; in which he attended the Berklee school of Music and dropped out after 2 semesters. Later that year, Mayer relocated in Atlanta, Georgia to pursue his dream. In Atlanta, he signed a contract for Columbia Records.
