3 Role of the Writer As the writer, who are you. You need to write this from the point of view of somebody/thing other than yourself. Some Ideas: –Abraham Lincoln –A slave –A blood Cell

4 Who is the Audience To whom is this piece of writing addressed? Because you are a character other than yourself, you must choose an audience other than the teacher. –Congress –A Capillary

5 What is the format of the writing? How are you going to write this assignment? What form should it take? –Letter –Obituary –Speech

6 Topic and Strong Verb Why are you writing this? What strong verbs can be used? –Persuade a soldier to spare your life –Plead for a halt to coal mining Admonish Pester Urge

7 Student Example: R= Blood Cell A= Human Body F= Travelogue T+Strong Verb: Explain the function of blood cells as they travel through the human body.

8 Student Example R= Point A= Teacher F= Letter T+Strong Verb: Convince your teacher that you have an important function.

9 Your Task… Using your book, create a RAFT paper of your own. This could be from the point of view of many things from the book and focus on many different topics. Be aware of the form as your write and keep your audience in mind. You will share your RAFT paper with the class.
