TECHNOLOGY In the computer lab research the Civil Rights Movement and see what you can find. Here are some great sites to get you started: http://www.infoplease.com/spot/civil rightstimeline1.htmlhttp://www.infoplease.com/spot/civil rightstimeline1.html http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/America n_Civil_Rights_Movement_(1955-1968)http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/America n_Civil_Rights_Movement_(1955-1968)

Speaking In groups of four, talk about what good citizenship and equality mean to you. Explain how you think black students and white students felt during the Civil Rights Movement. Do you think they felt the same about equality or not?

Art To honor Martin Luther King Jr. Day, we are going to make a rainbow pin. This pin shows us that people of all colors are part of one community of people and we must all cooperate and work together for our community to be successful. Please take a handout with the instructions from the art center, and get out your materials. http://crafts.kaboose.com/m artin-luther-king-jr-rainbow- pin.htmlhttp://crafts.kaboose.com/m artin-luther-king-jr-rainbow- pin.html

Writing Now that we have discussed the differences between the north and the south in the United States during this time, we are going to write a story. When you write your story, imagine that you have just moved to Mississippi from a northern state. How are things different, and how are you treated? How do you treat others? Write about your experiences. We will hang your stories in the hallway next week.

Drama Pretend that you are growing up in the south in the early 1960s. With your group, act out how you would have felt if you were one of the children in A Sweet Smell of Roses.
