8 Requirements for Studying Abroad Language Very few programs have requirements Good health - physically, mentally and emotionally - to help ensure the safety of participants, and a positive experience Open to new experiences and ready for challenges Age 15-18 for high school programs, 18 and older for Gap-year programs GPA 2.8 for year and semester programs

12 Global Leaders Financial Aid AFS’s main resource for financial assistance Award decisions based on: –Financial Aid for School Tuition (FAST) application ($36 application fee/fee waiver) –FAST: third party conducts thorough analysis of families’ financial details Avg. awards between $200-$1,500 Destination/length of program considered Household incomes under $65,000 Awards do not carry forward when a stu withdrawals or rolls over

16 National Security Language Initiative for Youth (NSLI-Y) Fully funded scholarships sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. Approximately 600 scholarships to learn Arabic, Chinese, Hindi, Korean, Persian, Russian, and Turkish for a year or a summer. 17 Kennedy-Lugar Youth Exchange and Study (YES) Abroad Program 55 full scholarships through YES Abroad for students to study for up to one year in countries with significant Muslim populations, including Bosnia & Herzegovina, Egypt, Ghana, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mali, Morocco, Oman, South Africa, Thailand and Turkey.
