13
Jesus’ Vocation One of John’s primary points through this Gospel is that Jesus is the one who brings life. The God-life, Kingdom-Life, which we as humans were intended to live from the beginning.
14
Jesus’ Vocation However, not all the “bread” we’re eating is from the bread of life.
15
King David Re-imagined “I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. And the bread that I will give for the life of the world is my flesh.” John 6:51 ESV
16
King David Re-imagined And David said longingly, “Oh, that someone would give me water to drink from the well of Bethlehem that is by the gate!” Then the three mighty men broke through the camp of the Philistines and drew water out of the well of Bethlehem that was by the gate and carried and brought it to David. But he would not drink of it. (continued)
17
King David Re-imagined He poured it out to the L ORD and said, “Far be it from me, O L ORD, that I should do this. Shall I drink the blood of the men who went at the risk of their lives?” Therefore he would not drink it. These things the three mighty men did. 2 Samuel 23:15-17 ESV “I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. And the bread that I will give for the life of the world is my flesh.” John 6:51 ESV
