11. Being sick as a result of drinking alcohol may mean you have alcohol poisoning.

13. Alcohol is a factor of 20 – 30% of all accidents. 1 in every 7 15 -16 year olds have been involved in an accident as a result of drinking alcohol. The Wirral has the fourth worst figures in England for drink- related hospital admissions amongst the under-18s Alcohol contributes to 5% of young people’s deaths. 47% of all victims of violence said their attacker was affected by alcohol at the time.

14. 87% of 11 -15 years olds don’t drink weekly. 55% of 11-15 year olds have never drunk alcohol. Underage drinking is falling in the UK (from 26% in 2001 down to 13% in 2010 of young people aged 11-15).

15. Make a list of what harm and danger could come to you as a result of drinking alcohol both in the short term and the long term. You each have one minute to come up with your answers, the team with the most wins.

20. Do you think people under the age of 18 shouldn’t drink alcohol? Why/why not? Do you think there is pressure on young people to drink alcohol? Why/Why not? How can we resist negative pressures to drink alcohol? If a substance has the potential to damage our body and affects our minds, do you think as Christians we should be taking it? What do you think ‘our bodies are a temple of the Holy Spirit’ means? Jesus’ first miracle was turning water into wine at a wedding. Do you believe that this tells us it is OK to get drunk? Do you believe you are an influence to others and do you think Christians have a responsibility to not influence others to drink? In what ways could alcohol rob you of your God given potential? What wisdom will you take from this session?
