2. WHO WE ARE White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for Hispanics –Established by President George H.W. Bush in 1990 –Priority Areas: Early Learning, K-12 Education, College Access, College Completion, STEM education and Latino Teacher Recruitment President’s Advisory Commission on Educational Excellence for Hispanics –Consists of education experts working to inform key priorities for the Administration and the Initiative through three subcommittees: Early Learning, K ‐ 12 Education and Postsecondary Education Federal Interagency Working Group on Educational Excellence for Hispanics –Consists of senior officials from federal agencies and White House offices working together to strengthen the link between the federal government and the Hispanic community. 2

ANNIVERSARY COMPONENTS  Commitments –Seeking commitments to action by private and public sectors to invest in programs and strategies aimed at increasing educational outcomes and opportunities for Hispanic students.  Outreach –Events across the country that gather stakeholders, share information about federal resources and investments, and highlight educational progress of the Hispanic community.  National Blueprint on Education for Hispanics: –Will highlight major educational accomplishments and trends and identify gaps and challenges for Latinos since 1990, outline federal government efforts that have informed and impacted education for Latinos and provide policy recommendations to address the Hispanic community’s current educational needs. 4
