Making Better Decisions Faster © 2000 DAI, Inc. Workcell Quality ® Demonstration Making Better Decisions Faster © November 2000 Derby Associates International, Inc. ®

Making Better Decisions Faster © 2000 DAI, Inc. Workcell Quality ® Let’s take a look at the steps followed to generate a report. Report Generation Demonstration Chris is our example user. After clicking on the icon on the desktop, Chris sees the login screen appear. Chris selects the User Name from the pulldown list and enters the appropriate password, then clicks on OK.

Making Better Decisions Faster © 2000 DAI, Inc. Workcell Quality ® Reporting Interface The Report Management Window appears next. Using this window, Chris selects the category of report needed from the All Report Types list. For this example, the Defect Analysis category is chosen. A description of the category is provided at the right of the interface. Category description

Making Better Decisions Faster © 2000 DAI, Inc. Workcell Quality ® Report Details & Selection The All Report Types list now expands to reveal the report types available in this category. For this example, the By Part Number report is chosen. A description of the report is provided at the right of the interface. Report description

Making Better Decisions Faster © 2000 DAI, Inc. Workcell Quality ® Setting-up Report Titles When Chris clicks on OK, a dialog box appears in which a Title and Sub Title are created for the report. These annotations will appear in the top of the report when it is generated.

Making Better Decisions Faster © 2000 DAI, Inc. Workcell Quality ® Assembly Type Selection Next, the Assembly Types that will be the subject of the report are chosen. Chris clicks on the More button next to the Assembly Type field to display a dialog box from which the Assembly Types are chosen. For this example, both the Amplifier and Controller types are selected.

Making Better Decisions Faster © 2000 DAI, Inc. Workcell Quality ® Assembly Type Revision Selection If the Assembly Types had multiple Revisions, users might want to select one of more Revision to narrow the scope of the report. Chris clicks on the More button next to the Assembly Revision field to display a dialog box from which the Assembly Revisions are chosen. For this example, REV A is chosen. REV A

Making Better Decisions Faster © 2000 DAI, Inc. Workcell Quality ® Process Step Selection After Chris selects the Assembly Type and Rev, then clicks the OK button, the right side of the interface displays the next selection to be made. In this way, the user is guided, step-by-step, through the report generation process. Now Chris chooses the Process Step—BTEST— from the pulldown list.

Making Better Decisions Faster © 2000 DAI, Inc. Workcell Quality ® Event Data Time Selection After Chris selects the Process Step, then clicks the OK button, the right side of the interface displays the next selection to be made—the Event, Date, and Time selection.

Making Better Decisions Faster © 2000 DAI, Inc. Workcell Quality ® Event-Data-Time Selection The Event, Date, and Time selection step defines the span of time for which the report will be generated. This example uses the third quarter, which runs from June through August. The date is specified in DD-MON-YYYY format, which is two digits for day (01), three characters for month (JUN), and a four- digit year (2000).

Making Better Decisions Faster © 2000 DAI, Inc. Workcell Quality ® Event-Data-Time Format The Time is specified in HH:MM, 24-hour, military format. So, hours (HH) and minutes (MM) are each specified using two digits. The example specified a “To” time of 11:59 PM, which is entered as: 23 (HH) : 59 (MM). When the Event, Date, and Time are specified, the OK button is clicked.

Making Better Decisions Faster © 2000 DAI, Inc. Workcell Quality ® Report Format Selection After specifying the EDT, Chris chooses how the report will be formatted: as Text, or as a Graph. Note that not all reports have this option; some can only be generated as text, others only as a graph. If you encounter such a report, only the available format will be active. Chris selects Graph for this example, then clicks OK.

Making Better Decisions Faster © 2000 DAI, Inc. Workcell Quality ® Selecting Additional Report Attributes The next step is to determine whether to modify values for other statistical options for this report. In most cases, this step is done once or twice, so the user creates the type of report to be used regularly. Note that this is not a mandatory step; the report can be generated as is in most cases.

Making Better Decisions Faster © 2000 DAI, Inc. Workcell Quality ® Report Scheduling Reports can be scheduled to run Now, Later, or Periodically. Selecting Now generates the report immediately. Selecting Later requires the user to specify a day and time to generate the report. Selecting Periodically allows the user to generate a report repeatedly on a specified schedule.

Making Better Decisions Faster © 2000 DAI, Inc. Workcell Quality ® Report Output Selection For this example, Chris chooses to generate the report Now. The report is displayed on the monitor for the terminal used to generate the report.

Making Better Decisions Faster © 2000 DAI, Inc. Workcell Quality ® Report Generation Status After selecting the scheduling option, all steps are complete and the report can be generated. Chris clicks on the Generate NOW button to start the report generation. A message dialog appears letting the user know the report generation status.

Making Better Decisions Faster © 2000 DAI, Inc. Workcell Quality ® Report Generation Process The TWQ software uses the specified information to build a SQL query, which extracts data from the database. Extracted data is returned to the TWQ software, which then completes the report calculations and formats the report as specified. The formatted report is displayed on the output device specified. SQL Query Database

Making Better Decisions Faster © 2000 DAI, Inc. Workcell Quality ® Example Graphical Report Now we see the report generated for Chris. The Defect Analysis by Part Number report generates a pareto (graph) that shows the most frequently failing parts for the assemblies and time specified. Other statistics included in the report can also be seen.

Making Better Decisions Faster © 2000 DAI, Inc. Workcell Quality ® Multiple Page Reports If more than one page were created for this report, it would be seen at the bottom of the report in the line “Page:” In this example only one page was generated. Users use the buttons at the bottom to move between pages. When Chris is finished with this report, the OK button is clicked.

Making Better Decisions Faster © 2000 DAI, Inc. Workcell Quality ® Report Inbox The report itself disappears, but is not deleted. Chris can click on the Reports menu and select Inbox, which will then display all the reports currently stored for this user. From here, reports can be viewed or deleted.

Making Better Decisions Faster © 2000 DAI, Inc. Workcell Quality ® Example Text Report If Chris had chosen “Text” as the format for this report, the output would look like that shown here. Remember that many reports can be displayed either as text or as a graph. Now let’s take a quick look at samples of the other reports available when using TWQ.
