What liquid would reach it boiling point faster? Milk, juice, soda,or water Katherine Lopez Greenbelt Middle School Grade 8 Ms.Gaymon January 2013

3 Question: What liquid would reach it boiling point faster? Milk, juice, soda, or water Abstract: I did this project so that I could see if liquids affected the boiling point. By this I mean to see if different liquids make a difference in the boiling temperature. I did this by boiling different liquids to there boiling point.

4 Research Report: I would like to give thanks to Ms.gaymon ; And all my teachers that have helped me in passed stem fairs to prepare me for the next step. I did an experiment to show heat and boiling points. In that experiment I was doing something that shows changes in temperature. My question was what liquid would reach its boiling point faster? Milk, water, soda, or juice. The purpose of the experiment was to see if it depends what the liquid is different for the different boiling points. My project is based on heat force and different temperatures. What this paper will be about is to see if different liquids change a boiling point. Liquids affect the boiling point. Because different properties affect the boiling point. The heat it is boiling at is also a factor in this. The heat the liquid is cooking at affects the boiling point because if it’s on high it will boil faster than is it was on a low setting. You can mix the two up also. If it was on high and it had soda it would probably boil faster than if it was on low with water. Because of the properties it has and the heat it’s given. While doing the experiment I wondered if a liquid had a great effect on the boiling point. So I searched it up. Then I saw that different drinks have different properties that would give a say onto when something has boiled. Boiling points are when something reaches to the point that it starts to bubble up. The vapor pressure is what causes the bubbles to form. When it reaches the boiling point the liquid stayed constant until the gas exits the liquid and the temperature drops. In my research I found out that you should not be able to boil something over its boiling point. The formula I found was ΔTb = iKbm im not sure if its correct because I says that it is the formula for boiling point elevation but I do not know if it’s the same thing. It seems like a complicated equation. I would like to learn more about boiling points in the future and actually find out if that is the equation that I am looking for, but it’s something I look forward to learning. So as you read this aren't you wondering about what makes liquids different?! Or what makes them different from gases or solids? Liquids when boiled can turn into gas or when it reaches it freezing points can turn in solids. So liquids can become either of the two. I think that that’s an interesting fact because it shows liquids in different physical forms. I couldn’t exactly find the answer to what makes them different I hope to learn more about it. But I think that they are different because of their different properties. In my experiment I asked “What liquid would reach its boiling point faster? milk, water, soda, or juice.”. My answer to the question is the soda. Because showing in my data the soda boiled faster it boiled in less than half a minute. I say because the soda have a fizziness thing in it which led it to boiling faster. But what I don’t get is why the soda sort of looks the same when boiling and fizzing, it makes the experiment a little harder. But then again it can also help my understanding on boiling points. This was an interesting experiment to do. I enjoyed doing this experiment.

5 liquids to help it boil faster.
Conclusion My hypothesis was correct, because I said that the soda would boil the fastest. I think it was because of the fizzy stuff inside the soda. It started of with the fizzy stuff then boiled. The soda boiled in under ten seconds while the other liquids took over a minute to boil. I wonder what could go inside other liquids to help it boil faster.
