2  The quality and efficiency of medical services provided in any hospital depend on the proper functioning of the equipment and instruments used by the doctors and other clinical staff.  Even under normal and careful use, instruments may fail to function properly  The frequency of such failures can be considerably reduce by proper care maintenance and timely repair INSTRUMENTS AND EQUIPMENT

3 Name of the instruments used  Dressing trolley  Dressing bin (large-stainless steel) is used to keep sterile dressing  Dressing box  Medicine tray  Kidney tray (steel and plastic) for irrigating the eye  Eye lash cutting tray

4   Aluminium tray for urine examination   Scissors Box (small)   Artery clamp   Cidex Box   Saline box   Bandage box   Chitles forceps-to carry sterile items   Suture removal forceps to remove the sutures

9 2. Immovable and heavy brass articles  Brass items that are heavy and cannot be moved should be polished in its place as the procedure followed for Kuthuvizhakku 3. Brass plates / Name plates / Idols  The brasso and dirt runs into the crevices and grooves of brass articles, follow the same procedure as above and remove the dirt and excess brasso with a tooth brush

10 Why ward cleanliness is important?  A ward area of the hospital where all the amenities-physical, social and especially medical care are made available to help the patients feel at home until they are discharged  Ward must be isolated from OP units  Cleanliness and housekeeping of the ward are most important to avoid nasocomial infections Cont….

11  The patient must be informed of all the facilities of the hospital so that they can choose as per their financial status  The equipment and instruments must be maintained properly and sterilized to avoid infections

12 Points to be kept in mind:  Handle the instruments carefully  Patients with infection should be isolated
