/ Acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math / Career fields that have been identified as crucial to maintaining the U.S. competitive advantage in global markets / An educational movement that focuses on allowing students to pursue research in areas of personal interest…teaching students critical thinking and problem solving skills through hands-on learning

/ Collaborate with STEM professionals in business, industrial, and university settings. / Participate in an independent research project (or many projects) during the summer. / Complete a research summary poster. / Present the research poster to mentors, peers, parents, and friends at a fall research symposium evening.

You will be required to attempt to contact and secure a mentor ON YOUR OWN If you are not able to find a mentor, one may be provided (based on availability) Recent mentors have worked for: Siemens Chicago Botanic Garden Science Center Hospira Northwestern University Rosalind Franklin School of Medicine

Internship typically begins mid-June 4 - 8 week commitment Typically 4-5 days per week Typically 6-8 hours per day Research poster completed by September 2012 Research Symposium Evening in October 2012.

Current sophomores and juniors Students currently enrolled in an A.P. science or mathematics course Students enrolled to take A.P. science or mathematics in 2012-13 4.0 cumulative weighted GPA

1.Complete an application, essay, & resume. 2.Return your completed application by 3:30 PM on Thursday, March 8th to Mr. Erdmann in Student Activities. 3.Email electronic copies of the essay and resume to berdmann@d125.org

/ Recommendation forms will be sent to your English, science, and mathematics teachers. / An interview will be scheduled with Mr. Erdmann. / A letter will be sent to your home address indicating if you have been accepted.
