January 12, 2015

3-2-1 Admit Ticket 3: Things about teaching students to read well that challenge you 2: Successes that you have had 1: Way you’ve helped students understand and do something about specific issues in their reading (Can you bring this to share with your colleagues at the next reading meeting? If not, can you bring something else that would be useful to others?)

Norms of Collaboration Take some “I Time” to read through The Seven Norms of Collaboration. Annotate the text according to the symbols below:  The Norm at which you are really good during reading meetings X The Norm on which you will focus on during reading meetings

Why the Norms? “A structured dialogue format is a way of organizing a group conversation by clearly defining who should be talking when and about what. While at first it may seem rigid and artificial, a clearly defined structure frees the group to focus on its attention on what is most important. In general, structured dialogue formats allot specified times for the group to discuss various aspects of the work.”

Short Response : 1 Inference 2 Text Evidence Details Inference Lesson/Annotated Version of the State Test Extended Response: Day 1: Gist, Unpack Question, Find Relevant Evidence Day 2: Rubric/Annotated Version Day 3: Read the models, “I” Time-rank 4,3,2,1, Pair share, Group share

Road to Reading Assessment Five Areas of Reading How classroom teachers can use this assessment to individualize instruction in small groups!

3-2-1 Collaborative Conversation Please have a collaborative conversation about your 3-2-1 Admit Ticket with a chat chum using the Norm, “putting your ideas on the table,” and “paraphrasing,”…then switch. As a group we will now share some of 3-2-1 conversations. Your partner will paraphrase what you said and vice versus.

Norms Inventory Please mark on each scale, to reflect your perception of your personal behavior.

EXIT TICKET What did you learn from listening to your colleagues that was interesting or surprising? How can you make use of your colleagues perspectives? Please bring something to share (copied, explained and ready to hand out) for your colleagues to use that may be helpful for them in teaching reading to the next meeting.
