1 Invasion and Conquest Lesson 6: The Division of the Land

2 Unconquered Territory The LORD said to Joshua, “You are old and there is much land left to be taken.” About how old was Joshua? (Josh. 24:29; 14:7- 10) The land left to be taken was the land of the Philistines, Geshurites, and the Phoenicians There were 2 and a half tribes that received their land on the east side of Jordan There will be 9 and a half tribes that will receive land on the west side of Jordan

3 Boundaries It is very difficult, even impossible to specify exact boundaries for the tribes Some of the cities mentioned no longer exist Some of the cities changed their names over time Some of the boundaries refer to landmarks that no longer exist (Josh 19:33) We can learn about where each tribe lived!

4 The Division of the Land The 2 and a half eastern tribes are listed as Moses having given them their land Judah and Joseph’s sons receive their allotment of land from Joshua at Gilgal (Josh 14:6) The whole congregation comes together at Shiloh where the tabernacle was set up Joshua rebukes the 7 remaining tribes for not doing more to receive their inheritance (Josh 18:1-3)
