7 Understand what forgiveness is The Greek word that is used in Matt. 18 for forgive means literally to “release, throw away, to loose yourself from something” To forgive, as Jesus intended, means to let go of a grudge; to “throw away the resentment we feel from being wronged.” More importantly, it means to “loose ourselves” from these feelings of hostility and urge to retaliate, get back at person.” LOVE IS WILLING TO FORGIVE

8 Understand what forgiveness is NOT Forgiveness does not always mean “pardon”  The offender is still held accountable Forgiveness does not always mean “restoration”  Just because I forgive you, doesn’t mean I trust you LOVE IS WILLING TO FORGIVE

9 Realize God allowed the offense to sanctify you  Thank God for the opportunity to grow  Pray for God to reveal hidden sin  Praise God for the work He is doing LOVE IS WILLING TO FORGIVE
