1. Feeder Student Data File Instructions for Filtering & Usage Guidelines

2. Step One: Accessing Your Feeder Student Data File Login to: https://baa.state.mi.us/BAASecure/https://baa.state.mi.us/BAASecure/ Click on “Student Test Scores” under the “Reports” section heading. Choose appropriate test cycle for desired file. “Fall 2013 MEAP Grades 3-9” “Fall 2013 MEAP-Access” “Fall 2013 MI-Access” Select appropriate constraints and click “Submit” to download a.CSV file of feeder data. Choosing any one of these cycles will give you the fall 2013 assessment file. All assessment-types are in the Feeder Student Data File.

Special Note on Column Descriptions While still logged into the Secure Site and on the Student Test Scores page, there is a helpful resource linked below the dropdown boxes titled: Student Feeder File Format This PDF file contains a layout and description of the columns present in the Feeder Student Data File. 4. Step Two: Open Your Feeder File in Spreadsheet Software Open your spreadsheet software and proceed to open the file from within the spreadsheet software program. If you are using MS Excel, enable filtering (from the “Data” tab). If you are unsure of how to filter spreadsheet files using your software, please contact your district IT resource staff or your software vendor’s technical support website/phone.

5. Step Three: Filter Appropriate Columns in File Filter column D to show only your district code. Filter Column E to show only your building code. Filter Column W to “1” to show only FAY students.

6. Success! You Have Now Filtered for FAY Students The students that should have now successfully filtered are considered Full Academic Year (FAY) students in your district and school. You may now apply additional filters such as “SE” = 1 for Special Education students, ED = 1 for Economically Disadvantaged students, LEP = 1 for Limited English Proficient students. You may also filter on ethnicity for FAY student performance by ethnicity. The ethnicity codes used in the file are as follows: 0 = Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander 1 = American Indian or Alaska Native 2 = American Indian or Alaska Native 3 = Black or African American 4 = Hispanic or Latino 5 = White 6 = Two or more Races 9 = Asian

7. Notes About the FAY Students Filtered for in This File Students that were successfully reported in a Shared Educational Entity (SEE) for Accountability are shown as FAY in this file in their home district/school buildings. Rules and processing of SEE for Accountability students will be processed at a later time. To be considered FAY for a district, the student must have been present in at least the two consecutive student count dates prior to the fall 2012 assessment. To be considered FAY in a school, the student must have been present in at least the three consecutive student count dates prior to the fall 2012 assessment. The count dates from the following collections are used to determine FAY status for the FAY files: Fall 2012 Spring 2013 End of Year (EOY) 2013

8. More Notes About This File The student that are in this file prior to filtering it, either: – Are Full Academic Year (FAY) in your school – Were tested in your school – Results “feed” to your school Students can “feed” to your school but are not FAY unless flagged as such. Only FAY students will contribute to your accountability proficiency calculations. This file is NOT necessarily representative of students for which your school will be held accountable for assessment participation, as assessment participation attribution is based on enrollment during the testing window of the current school year and is NOT related to FAY or feeder status.

9. Final Notes About This File Use of this file is intended to help districts and schools identify FAY students from fall 2013 test results. You can use this file to estimate your percent proficient of FAY students from the fall testing cycles. This will give you an idea of what your Michigan School Accountability Scorecard performance will look like. Please keep in mind that this file is not representative of all accountability data processing rules that eventually end up on the scorecard.
