5 Selection to Access Process Improvement (English language monographs) Acquire as many new monographs as possible through a streamlined process, not requiring local cataloging or local physical processing. Expand the use of approval plans to free time for liaisons to identify and select less mainstream titles, and to consolidate English-language ordering with a single vendor Creation or revision of approval plans increased coverage of English language materials contributed to the elimination of subject coverage gaps.

6 Selection to Access Process Improvement (English language monographs) In-house review of approval plan books eliminated; books sent directly to public new bookshelves Catalog records are loaded into the catalog closer to the time books are received. Maximize the unique content obtainable for the Libraries’ budget dollars: paperback set as the default edition choice; binding only when condition/use warrants rather than on receipt; duplicate copies largely disallowed

7 Selection to Access Process Improvement (serials and electronic resources) E-resources workflow simplified, reducing confusion and frustration for liaisons and TS staff. One online ordering form for all types of e-resources. Licensing review consolidated with fewer responsibilities assigned to liaisons. Libraries-wide policies and default procedures created to bring consistency across the Libraries and to reduce time in making title-by-title decisions.

13 Case Studies in Publishing -- Your Choices in Journal Contracts In this workshop, participants will work through two common decision points raised by journal article contracts. Relevant context will be provided on academic publishing issues such as copyright and authors rights, cultural and economic norms, and promotion and tenure implications. Practical strategies and helpful tools will be discussed. This event has been designated by the Office of the Vice President for Research to satisfy the Awareness/Discussion component of the Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) continuing education requirement.

15 In setting priorities it is important to reflect the changing needs of our clientele. We'll always face the challenges of balancing core work with strategic efforts but it's important to note that these definitions will continue to evolve. The work identified as strategic today could easily form the core work of the future.
